Waverly Glover Obituary

God in His infinite wisdom called Waverly Glover to rest from his labors on January 3, 2021.  He was born May 12, 1922 as the second son to enhance the quality of life for Frank and Lillian Glover.  His unique Mount Vernon, Ohio public school experience was completed when he satisfied the requirements for graduation from Mount Vernon High School in December 1939.

The three and a half years he spent as a member of the Army of the United States was a life altering experience and it provided the vehicle to satisfy a dream of his life to obtain college degree.

As a student of Central State University, he actively participated in student  activities and was elected President of the student body and he was  initiated into Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.  The requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Accounting were satisfied Magna Cum Laude in December 1949.  Good fortune continued to smile upon him as he was employed by the Internal Revenue Service as an Agent.  In 1961, after satisfying the requirements imposed by the State of Ohio and the American Institute of CPA’s, the destination of Certified Public  Accountant was awarded.  Following the rewarding and gratifying  experience with the IRS, an opportunity to serve as the Chief Financial Manager for Central State University followed.  The irresistible offer to serve as the Director of Budgets and Assistant Treasurer of Ohio University strengthened his credentials.  He would often say that many are called by few are chosen.  The crème de la crème was servicing as  Finance Director and Assistant City Manager for the City of Springfield, Ohio.  The lead editorial for the Springfield newspaper dated December 15, 1970 and the reward of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce Giant Stride Award for outstanding support to City government was a most gratifying experience.  He served on a number of local boards and he was appointed by the United States Secretary of State to a six-year term as a member of the United States commission for UNESCO.  His final experience was completed as an R & D Branch Chief at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Upon his retirement, he was awarded the U.S. Air Force medal for outstanding  civilian service.

Resolutions by both the Ohio State House of Representatives and the Ohio State Senate supported the fact that your deeds in life are repaid many fold.  He was also awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Monrovia University in Monrovia, Liberia. The induction into the graduate fraternity, Sigma Pi Phi (The Boule) was a rewarding experience.

Waverly was inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame, class of 2015.  This was a highlight to end his career.

Waverly Glover is survived by twin daughters, Pamela M. Glover of Trotwood, Ohio and Paula M. Glover of Clayton, Ohio; granddaughter, Jayla McLemore of Trotwood, Ohio; a loving sister, Anita Clark of  Malibu, California; goddaughter, Shawn A.
