Richard Eugene Jones Sr., 73, entered into eternal rest August 7, 2023 after a 5 year battle with Colon Cancer. He was born November 21, 1949 in Springfield, Ohio, the first born to Pastor Cleaveland and Louise Jones.
Richard is a graduate of Springfield High School, class of 1968 and ITT Technical Institute with a degree in Architectural Drafting.
He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served 4 years. He was honorably discharged in 1972.
On April 6, 1974 he was united in holy matrimony to the former Bettie Jean Powell and this union was blessed with two children.
Richard was baptized at Mt Carmel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Clarence B. Sims and Pastor Cleaveland R. Jones. He was an active member of the Trustee Board, Men’s Ministry and Sunday School attendee.
Richard expanded his love of architecture within AutoCAD and Interior Design. His talent can be seen in various buildings and structures including, the Full Gospel Church of Springfield, Ohio, Fire Rescue Dept #26 and Mt Hebron Church in Mobile, Alabama.
Richard was employed for 25 years with Armco Steel, Dayton, Ohio & Steelox of Middletown, Ohio. In 2001 he relocated to Atlanta, Georgia where he shared his talent with Dekalb Steele Inc. In 2006 he joined Dendy Architectural firm in Mobile, Alabama where he worked on various projects up until his retirement in 2012.
His foundation and noble work ethic began in his early years with Benjamin Steele and Murray Black. Richards’s life Mantra: IMPROVISE. ADAPT & OVERCOME.
He leaves to cherish his wonderful memory, his loving wife of 49 years, Bettie Jean (Powell) Jones; two children, Richard Jones Jr. and Emily Jones; one grandson, Quintin Joshua Grant; two devoted aunts, Marie Pritchet and Delores Jones of Springfield, Ohio; five siblings; Marsha Jones of Springfield, Ohio, Bruce (Karla) Jones of Huber Heights, Ohio, Larry Jones of Springfield, Ohio, William Michael (Veronica) Jones of Springfield, Ohio and L.E. Darlene Jones of Springfield, Ohio; eight nieces and nephews; Kirstine (Calvin) Danna, Katina Jones, LaShaunta Jones, Candace (Ordis) Steen, Lejuan (Monica) Jones, Ebony Jones, Jasmine (Bryan) Crite, Larry Jones Jr. and Veronique Jones; two brothers in-laws, John (Cindy) Johnson and Joe (Sadie) Mackie; two sisters in-law, Louise Womack and Dorothy (General) Lynum and two devoted friends, Gary Truss and Gaylene Blackwell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pastor Emeritus Cleaveland R. and W. Louise (White) Jones; paternal grandparents, Benjamin and Sallie Mae (Reynolds) Jones and maternal grandparents, William Hugh White and Ruby Ventures Tolliver.
Visitation is Thursday, August 17, 2023 from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 12 noon at St. John Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park with military honors.
