Mary Carter Obituary

Mary Elizabeth White Carter, known to many as “Mickell”, age 66, departed life peacefully at the Ross Heart Hospital at The Ohio State University Hospital after a long battle with illness on August 3, 2022.

Mary was born in Springfield, Ohio on June 16, 1956, to the late Willabie White and Ana Ruth Cromer.  She is survived by her bonus mother, Aunt Essie Murphy; sons, William Earley III of Columbus Ohio, Keith (Melissa) Earley of Beavercreek Ohio; grandchildren, Korbin, Kauner, Alexcis and Isaiah; great granddaughter, Raelynn; sisters, Barbara Brown Springfield Ohio, Pamela White of Columbus Ohio and Florene White of Stockdale Georgia; brothers, Steven Murphy Springfield Ohio, Willie B. White Jr. of Atlanta Georgia and George (Nancy) Brown of Fairborn Ohio; aunts, Berniece Stream, Joy Portman and Rosemary Williams along with many beloved nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Tonie Harris and uncle, William (Bill) Murphy.

Mary spent her early years as a military child living many places such as Japan and Texas a few of her favorites that she often mentioned, finally landing in Yellow Springs Ohio where she spent her teenage years.  She became a cheerleader for her beloved Bulldogs. She was a well-known friend to many in the community, where her love for reading and talking on the phone with family and friends began. She received her college degree from the Academy of Court Reporting in Columbus Ohio, where she made her home.  Mary was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan, and if the Buckeyes weren’t on you could find her watching tennis or golf. Mary had a great love for her two sons and was very proud of the men that they have become. That love continues to live on, passing to the next generation.

Mary’s family would like to acknowledge the nursing staff and doctors who provided care over the last few years. We will forever be grateful for the kindness and compassion that was shown to our mother, daughter, and sister. We thank you so much!

Memorial Service is Friday, August 12, 2022 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. in El Bethel Temple, 2049 Clifton Avenue, Springfield, Ohio 45505.

“Miss Me, But Let Me Go”

When I come to the end of the road, And the sun has set for me

I want no rites in a gloom – filled room.

Why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little, but not too long.

And not with your head bowed low.

Remember the love that we once shared, Miss me, but let me go.

For this is a journey we all must take, And each must go alone.

It’s all a part of the Master’s plan, A step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick at heart, Go to friends we know,

And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds,

Miss me but let me go.
