Lois Opal Young earned her wings early Friday morning, June 2, 2023. Lois was born April 2, 1922 in Cedartown, GA and later moved to Springfield, Ohio. She is the seventh of thirteen children born to William and Lodie Orr Hutchins. She attended Springfield City Schools. After graduating, “Red” attended Cosmetology school. She worked briefly at WPAFB and retired from Springfield City School as a Teacher’s Aide.
Lois was a faithful member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church for over 70 years and was a devoted Sunday School teacher for many years until the age of 96. Lois loved her Willing Workers. She remained President until her passing. Since 1995, every Wednesday she looked forward to hosting her Retiree “Guys” as she would call them! Her favorite events were Family Reunion, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Lois married George W. Young; this union was blessed with four children. She was preceded in death by her husband, both parents, her children, sons; George Allen, Michael T.; daughter; Terrance E.; daughter- in-law; Kathy Young; five brothers, Edward, William, James, John and Robert; seven sisters, Mattie Taylor, Minnie Lytle, Fannie Oliver, Myrtle Searcy, Carrie Hankins, Beverly McConnel and Doris Elder.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Twana Harris of Indianapolis, IN; daughter-in-law, Debra Young of Springfield, OH; sister-in-law, Reva Hutchins of Columbus, OH, nine grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and thirty-one great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, many friends, including a special friend, Sharon Gregory.
Visitation is Saturday, June 10, 2023 from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 12 noon in St. John Missionary Baptist Church. Entombment will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park.
