Leslie "Sonny" Howard Young

Leslie Howard James “Sonny” Young, 74 of Springfield, Ohio passed away November 5, 2020.  He was born February 25, 1946 in Covington, Kentucky the son of Margaret (Ewing) Young.  

Sonny retired from the United States Air Force, Navistar International and US Airways.  He was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Community Hospital Board, Board of Elections and the Democratic Party.  Sonny had a love for history, he relished in sharing stories with any one that would listen and he enjoyed traveling and collecting spoons from around the world. Sonny had a special gift of not meeting a stranger and served as a mentor to many young men in the community.

Bro. Young was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church. He served in the Small Group Ministry, Male Chorus and Marriage Ministry. Sonny graduated from Springfield Catholic Central and studied business at Clark State Community College and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Central State University.  He served his country in the United States Air Force and the Air Force Reserves and was honorably discharged.

His memory will be cherished by his daughters:  Jada (Keith) Robinson of New Jersey and Lauren Young of Ohio; grandchildren: Kayla Robinson and Jase Robinson of New Jersey and Landon Young of Ohio. Sonny’s passion for family heritage was close to his heart. His had a special bond with his Ewing family in Indianapolis and the Lewis family of Springfield, Ohio. Both of whom he cherished. The Bradford family who were truly the brothers and sisters that he did not have, who gave him countless nieces, nephews and cousins all of whom provided him with an abundance of love.   Special friends: Rose Jackson, Gaylen Blackwell, James Cobb, Walter Earley, Bruce Johnson, the Piedmont Family, Employees from Jeff Wyler Springfield Auto Mall and his brothers from the Optimist Club of Springfield Ohio.

Sonny was proceeded in death by his mother Margaret (Ewing) Young and his beloved wife of many years Beverly (Bradford) Young. Together again they will be looking over each and every one of us… “ALWAYS AND FOREVER”.
