Ida L. (Gaskins) Sutton

Ida L. (nee Gaskins) Sutton of Springfield, OH transitioned from her earthly vessel to her eternal home on April 6, 2022 at the age of 93. Ida was born to Rev. Fred D. and Gladys V. (Dunnaville) Gaskins in Mount Vernon, OH. Growing up with 4 brothers, Ida was a spirited young woman that loved sports as much as reading. One particular time when she planned to spend time at the library, she was invited to go skating. Although she pushed back and didn’t think there was any way skating could provide as much enjoyment, she relented. That was her first date with Leroy Sutton, her future husband. They enjoyed over 50 years of marriage until Leroy’s passing.

She retired from the Defense Electronics Supply Center (DES-C) in 1983 after 30 years of service. Ida dedicated her life to her church and family. She was a longtime member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church and proud volunteer with the church service group, Willing Workers.

Ida is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Fred and Gladys Gaskins; husband, Leroy H. Sutton; 3 children, Cecelia Sims, LeRoi Sutton, and Tracee Sutton; 4 brothers, Fred D. Jr, Dr. John F., Nelson D., and Homer E. Gaskins; and son-in-law, Gary L. Sims. Left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, G. Christopher (Dawn) Sims and Dana (Mark Wilder) Sims; 6 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, several nieces and nephews, and a host of other family members and close friends.

Visitation is Monday, April 18, 2022 from 12-1 p.m. in the Robert C. Henry Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. in Rose Hill Burial Park.
