Garrett H. Berry, Jr. (Goose), was born on May 3, 1941 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Garrett and Lucinda Berry. He was called home by God on October 28, 2021. The family relocated to Springfield, Ohio when he was 10 years old. Goose was educated in the Dayton and Springfield Public School Systems, graduating from Springfield High School, Class of 1959. Goose enjoyed playing sports, singing, had a passion for art and people at large. He served as president of RoadRunner Motorcycle Club (Dayton/Springfield Chapter)for several years. He loved to DJ at local car shows and to sing karaoke in local clubs. He played & coached men’s AAU basketball including having the opportunity to play against Wilt Chamberlain and the Harlem Globetrotters. Goose also volunteered his time with the youth within Springfield City Schools (Franklin Middle School) & coaching basketball through the YMCA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Garrett & Lucinda Berry; his three sisters, Norma Jean Massey, Alice Berry & Lucinda Berry; wife, Kristine Joy Berry and nephew, Mark A. Berry. He leaves to cherish his memory, daughter, Bianka (Terrance) Smoot of Springfield, OH; two sons, Garrett H. Berry III and David Carter both of Los Angeles, CA; brother, Michael Berry of Springfield, OH; grandsons, Zy’aire N. Fletcher, Terrance “Trey” L. Smoot III, Ty’Aire Smoot, Ty’Rece & Ty’Quan Smoot; extra daughter, Mandy (Allen) Moore of Columbus, OH; best friend Craig (Denise) Williams of Xenia, OH; fours nieces and one nephew, cousins and a host of great nieces and nephews and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 13, 2021 from 10 a.m. until the time of the Celebration of Life service at 12 noon in Greater First Baptist Church.
