Clarence Brown Obituary

A Portrait of Life

Clarence Dewey Brown was born January 31, 1954 in Chicago, IL to Clara Rhodman Prosser. He was one of four children and spent his youth in Vicksburg, MS.  After graduating from South Vicksburg High School, where he was captain of the football team and Senior Class President, he attended Alcorn State University in Lorman, MS.  He continued pursuing his love for football at Alcorn State.  Clarence later transferred to Wilberforce University in Wilberforce, OH.

While attending Wilberforce University, he made the Church of Jesus his church home.  He was baptized in Jesus name and filled with the Holy Ghost under the late Bishop Cecil Alexander Pratt.  Given the name “Big Mac”, he was a gentle giant that loved witnessing to others about Jesus. He discovered his passion for cooking at the church.  He worked with the media department, sang in the choir, and served on the sick committee, preparing meals for bereaved families.  He loved the Pratt family dearly and considered himself their son and Brad’s big brother.

After leaving Wilberforce University, he relocated to Dayton and worked as a Counselor at the Dayton Group Home.  He then began a lengthy career at Dayton Superior Steel Manufacturing Company.

After a lengthy illness, Clarence went home to be with the Lord on September 13, 2019, at Heartland of Miamisburg, in Miamisburg, OH.

He will be missed forever.  We will always remember his laugh and loving heart.

Clarence was preceded in death by his mother, Clara Rhodman Prosser; step-father, James Prosser; grandmother, Mary Lou Rhodman; sister, LaVonne Rhodman Wood; and brother, Eddie C. Rhodman.  He leaves to cherish his memory his sister, Bernice Rhodman Laury (Bill and sons Justin and Torrance) of Atlanta, GA; his devoted cousin, James (Muriel) Rhodman; cousins, Lora Rhodman Williams, Aleta (Roderick) Crawford, Kimberly Rhodman, Erna (Derwin) Duncan, Johnny Rhodman and Carolyn Rhodman; extended family, granddaughter, Nyoka Walker and great grandchildren, Georgion, Damya, and Tramir; special friends, Carolyn Hall, Patrice King, and his caring Church of Jesus Family.
