William E. “Bill” Hood was born on July 4, 1936, to Pauline (Knox) Hood and Kermit Hood, Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandmother, Viola Knox, and his brother, Kermit Hood, Jr.
William leaves to cherish his memory his loving sisters, Marva A. Hood and Linda A. Higgenbotham; special cousin, Marsha Norris; and a devoted sister-in-law, Emma Jean Hood. William, “Uncle Bill”, will be remembered warmly by nephews, Carlton Hood, Brian (Pilar) Hood, David Bentley, and Darnell Hood; nieces, Karen Hood, Jacki (Kyle) Peterson, Danielle Hood, and Monica (Arrick) Richardson; great nieces and nephews, Whitney, Jazmen, KJ, Carson, Miley, Chris, Jade, Channing, Marquan and Arrinae; great-great nieces and nephews, Michael, Carter, Bryson, Daxson, Ayden, Aubrey, LaRenz, Mieyell, Carissa, Chris Jr., Imani, Carlo, and Carli.
William was a proud veteran of the United States Army, he served honorably before retiring from DESI after more than 30 years of dedicated service. William was known in the neighborhood as the trusted local notary, he was always ready to assist anyone who needed documents notarized—especially when buying or selling cars. William also enjoyed a life full of creativity and simple pleasures. He worked for many years as a florist at Lucy’s Flower Shop, a role he deeply enjoyed.
He loved doing crossword puzzles and for the last 8 years, he found great joy and peace in coloring. He loved giving his great nieces and nephews pictures that he colored. He also would have the nursing home staff copy the pictures so the kids could color them too. These hobbies reflected his patient artistic and gentle spirit.
Above all, William loved his family and could not wait for the next family gathering. His excitement for being surrounded by loved ones was a true reflection of his warm and devoted heart.
William E. Hood will be remembered for his generosity, humility, and unwavering love for his family and neighbors.
Visitation is Monday, December 15, 2025 from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. at Covenant United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Ferncliff Cemetery with military honors.
