Shirley A. Hammond, 78, born in Springfield Ohio on September 30, 1946, to William and Gladys (Rice) Hammond.
Shirley graduated from Springfield South High School in 1964 and attended Central State University. She was also a Debutante. She accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at Fair Street Christian Church. She loved to read and shop. Shirley was a member of Bread of Heaven Tabernacle of Praise of Erie PA, where she was the co-founder of the Women's Ministry and served as President, she served as co-chairperson of the Sick Committee, and was assigned to Twinbrook Rehabilitation and Nursing Home, she was a faithful member of the Prayer Ministry and love weekly Bible Study.
Shirley had been employed by the City of Erie and retired after many years of dedicated service from the City of Erie Public Works Department.
Her memory will be cherished by her brother, Kenneth Hammond of Springfield, Ohio; sisters, Gladys Oliver of Springfield, Ohio, Delores (Ron) McCoy of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Rose (Gerald) May of Springfield, Ohio; dear friends, Dorothy Smith-Frazier, Cheryl Horton-Jong, Julia Jefferson and a host of other relatives and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Williams and Gladys (Rice) Hammond; sisters, D'Esta Smith and Frances G. Rodgers; brothers, William Hammond Jr., Ronald Hammond, Richard Hammond, and Reginald Hammond.
Visitation is Friday, December 6, 2024 from 10-10:30 a.m. in the Robert C. Henry Funeral Home. Shirley will be laid to rest at 11 a.m. in Rose Hill Burial Park, Springfield, Ohio.
