Sarah Lee (Massengale) Smith, 73, of Springfield, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2015. She was born March 23, 1942 in Goodwater, Alabama a daughter of Homer and Dallie Massengale. She was a loving mother, granny, wife and a good friend to many. Mrs. Smith was a member of the former St. Luke Baptist Church, now Restored Life Ministries for over 50 years. She was a very talented musician and was blessed with a beautiful voice. She sang with several groups and she was a member of the Restoration Choir where she served as the choir president and the choir director. She also served in the Correspondence and Membership Ministries. Sarah had a welcoming spirit and was always encouraging others to do their best. She loved to cook and her culinary career expanded over 30 years. After retiring, she enjoyed working as a care giver and she babysat for family and friends. She leaves to cherish her memory her six loving children and their spouses, Gwendolyn and Chris Hall, Sonya and Charles Chase, Monica and Smith Cruse, Sherrie and Marcus Knox, Tonya and Ed Griffin and Anthony J. Smith; 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Louis Massengale, Walter Massengale and J. W. Massengale; three sisters, Louis (Massengale) Brooks, Emma and Carl Howard and Malinda Massengale, a special uncle and his wife, James and Teresa Smith and a number of nieces, nephews cousins and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack T "Jackie" Smith; three brothers, Billy Massengale, Henry Massengale and John Massengale; four sisters, Lora B. Kelly, Doris Rowe, Betty Wilson and Bonnie Massengale and a special aunt, Lora Belle (Winston) Harold. A celebration of the life of Mrs. Sarah L. Smith will be held Saturday at 9:30 A.M. in Restored Life Ministries with Pastor Larry D. Coleman officiating.
