Roger L. Evans, 87, of Springfield. Ohio passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024.  He was born April 24, 1936, in Springfield, Ohio, the son of Douglas and Mary (Thomas) Evans. Roger served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He retired after many years of dedicated service from the Springfield Police Department and served as Chief of Police.

Roger was affectionately called Pastor Chief at Greater Grace.  He thoroughly enjoyed teaching the Wednesday morning Bible Study. Roger enjoyed traveling all over the country and world. His best vacations were cruises with Sharon and their group of traveling friends. He also enjoyed trying various restaurants throughout the Miami Valley, Columbus, and Cincinnati.  Another enjoyment was shopping with Sharon anywhere they found a mall. Roger loved the Springfield Community and enjoyed serving in various capacities.

His memory will be cherished by his loving and devoted wife, Sharon Evans; daughter, Rhonda (Rodney) Jackson; brother-in-law, Marvin (Debbie) Flowers; three grandchildren, Brandy Evans, Christina Frisby, and Onesti Evans; great grandchildren, Justyce and Keyanne Simmons, Hailey Virgin, Breanna Bowman, and Toni West; daughter-in-law, Caren Evans, and a host of other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Gerald Evans; grandson, Tracey Evans; brother, Carl Evans and sisters, Erma Goodwin, and Doris Kelley.

Pastor Chief showed extreme strength and kept a positive attitude throughout all his sickness, and he never complained. He never gave up but happily gave into God for his eternal reward.

Visitation is Friday, January 26, 2024 from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 12 noon in Greater Grace Temple.  Burial will follow in Ferncliff Cemetery.
