IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard
Nooks
March 20, 1943 – January 3, 2020
Richard "Day Day" D. Nooks was born March 20th, 1943, to Winifred "Winnie" (Baker-Nooks) Howard and Derewood R. Nooks, both deceased. He was called home on January 3rd, 2020 after several years of declining health. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert L. Nooks and grandparents Leonard and Georgia (Grimes) Nooks and Cecil and Marilyn (Sims) Baker.
At the age of 18, Day Day enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Hawaii, California, Japan and Vietnam; serving as Quartermaster while aboard the USS Turner Joy, the USS Lynd McCormick and other ships. He was also assigned to shore duty at the Pentagon but preferred the open seas.
For many reasons Day Day will be remembered by countless numbers of people, far and wide, as someone with a kind heart. A recent posting on Facebook shared about Day Day read, "I have never heard anyone say anything bad about him". Day Day was a very quiet and private person and those who really knew him found that he had a great sense of humor, was a history buff and lover of both jazz and nature.
Day Day's survivors include daughter, Lynette Nooks-Addison (Doug); grandchildren, Taylor, Lynn and Josh, all life-long residents of San Diego CA; sisters, Wanda J Nooks Stephen and Angela Nooks Marshall (Keith). Others still here to remember Day Day are nephews, Michael Nooks (whom he trusted and depended on), and Martin Yates; nieces, Princess La Barrie, Melissa Marshall-Pickens (Jarrod) and Lesa Anne Nooks-Winborn; great nieces, London, Kameron, Ava, Olivia, Audrey, Brittney, Brianna, and great nephews, Isaiah and Fremar "Tommy"; several great greats, as well as a host of cousins and friends.
Day Day's Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 18th, 2020 at 12:00 noon at New Life Christian Assembly, 436 East Main Street, Xenia Ohio. Memorial Arrangements Entrusted to Robert C. Henry—Clark Funeral Home, Springfield Ohio.
