Obituary

PHYLLIS MARLENE GOODWIN was born on December 30, 1936 to the late Mose and Lena Lyles of Springfield Ohio. She was the youngest of three children and was preceded in death by her brother, Norwood; her sister, Naomi; her husband, Ralph and their children, Ralph "Skip" Jr. and Gayle. Upon graduation from Springfield High School, Marlene matriculated at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. However, she later returned home where she earned her degree in elementary education from Wittenberg University. Marlene met and dated "the boy next door", Ralph Agnue Goodwin, who was a clothing designer at Wright- Patterson Airforce Base; they later married, stayed in Springfield and raised their three children, Gayle, Ralph Agnue, Jr. and Robb André. Her career as an elementary school teacher spanned over forty years in the Springfield School System. To her credit after retirement, Marlene was hired to tutor students during the regular school year as well as summer school. Marlene loved beautiful clothes. Not only did she buy and wear them, she sold them. She and her dear friend, Phyllis Berry, a fellow teacher and tutor co-owned and managed a women's wear boutique, Sisters, for two years. As a devoted Christian, Marlene was an active member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church for over seventy years. She served on the Trustee Board, the Financial Committee, the History Committee, and worked with the Lethia Craig Circle. Marlene also taught Vacation Bible School. In addition to her affiliations and activities in her church, Marlene belonged to social clubs and organizations. She held both local chapter and national offices in Jack and Jill as well as in the Links Incorporated. Marlene leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Robb and daughter in-law, Renée, grandchildren André and Leah, Marlena and Maurice. Nieces and nephews, Norwood Jr., Brent, Karla, Denise and Karen. Grandniece Brijette, grandnephew Lyle, and a host of other family and friends. Lovingly submitted, the Family
