Omar Dawan, age 89, of Springfield, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2021 in Springfield, Ohio. He was born July 2, 1931 in Barnesville, Georgia. After growing up in Barnesville, Georgia he moved to Dayton, Ohio and later moved to Springfield, Ohio.

Omar became a Muslim in 1968. He was a member of An-Nur Islamic Center on Liberty St. in Springfield, Ohio. He retired from General Motors after 32 years of service. He also served his country in the Armed Forces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas Banks and Annie (Bland) Banks; brothers, John Banks, Clarence Banks and Bobby Banks.

Omar will be missed by his loving wife of 26 years, Nola S. Dawan; son, Christopher Banks; daughter, Theresa R. Banks; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; step-children, Larry Muhammad, Melani Williams, Salimah Berrien and Amber Muhammad; brothers, Troy Banks, Bennie Banks and Lewis Banks; sisters, Thelma Davis, Grace Martin and Annie Maude Banks; sisters-in-law, Andrea (Charles) Johnson, Deborah (Lance) McIntire and Karen Kelley.
