April 22, 1933 – December 6, 2024
Lula Mary Dill, a beloved mother, grandmother and aunt peacefully departed this life on December 6, 2024 at Hospice of Dayton. She was an only child born on April 18, 1933, to Dennis Johnson of Paducah, Kentucky and Martha Agnes Pryor of Pryorsburg, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Edward Eugene Dill of Springfield, Ohio. Lula leaves behind to cherish her memory two daughters, Marletta Austin of Springfield, OH and Dana Lee of Dayton, OH. She also leaves behind a beloved grandson, Austin Lee and a son-in-law Jerome Lee both of Dayton, OH. Lula also leaves behind a host of nephews and nieces in-law, cousins and friends. Closest to her heart were her cousin, Robert Samples (Gwen) of Pontiac, MI and nephew Anthony Dill (Cindy) of Springfield, OH.
Lula graduated in 1954 from Honey's Beauty and Cosmetology School in Dayton Ohio. She worked as a cosmetologist for over 50 years and owned Dill's Beauty Mart in conjunction with her husband in Springfield. She was featured in the Springfield News and Sun as the oldest living licensed beautician in Springfield. Not only was she a successful business owner, she was president of the Ohio Association of Beautician Springfield Chapter "The Beaumonds" in the 1960's.
During that same time period, Lula was a Brownie Leader of Troop 1164.
Lula was a member of New North Street AME Church in Springfield in her later years. She was previously a member of Phillips Chapel CME Church where she held the office of Missionary President and spearheaded many church events over the years. She was a faithful worker in the church.
For many years Lula was a member of National Council of Negro Women Clark County Springfield Section where she held an office coordinating membership.
Lula lived a life full of love, laughter and kindness. She will be missed by all who loved her.
Visitation is Wednesday, December 18, 2024 from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 12 noon in New North Street A.M.E. Church. Burial will be Thursday, December 19, 2024 at 11 a.m. in Dayton National Cemetery.
