Lloyd Eugene Dixon was born August 20, 1933, in Springfield, Ohio. He went home to be with the Lord at the Kobacker House (Hospice), Columbus, Ohio, on March 31, 2015.
Lloyd attended Catholic Central High School until enlisting into the U.S. Army in 1951. He continued his education while in the armed services through Cadet and Officer Training schools, which included Advanced Management Training. Lloyd was honorably discharged from the U. S. Army in 1953 and continued his military career in the Army Reserve. He retired from active Reserve duty in April, 1984 after 30 years of service at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His final retirement from the Army occurred in 1993. Lloyd also was employed for 30+ years by Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, spending the majority of his career at the Air Force Logistics Command as a Program Analyst. He retired at the GS 13 level in April, 1987.
Lloyd grew up in the Catholic Church and was a member of the St Bernard Parish. He later became a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church where he was active in Bible Study Ministry as a teacher/leader, Christian Men Fellowship Ministry and Men's Day Choir. Lloyd was extremely involved in the Springfield Community, serving on the Civil Service Commission, Democratic Party Voter Registration and as an EEOC counselor. He also was very involved in the Springfield chapters of the Urban League and the NAACP, serving in officer capacities for each at different points in time. In love for his local community and country, Lloyd was a member of the American Red Cross-Disaster Relief, participating in many relief efforts across the country, including the 9-11 effort in New York City.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his father and mother Lee and Virginia (Rice) Dixon, son Bryan Dixon and granddaughter Tamara Dunn, brothers Benjamin Dixon and Richard Dixon, and sister Maxine Harris.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Helen Dixon (Springfield, Ohio), son Myles E. Dixon (San Francisco, California), daughters LaTaunya M. Dunn (Columbus, Ohio) and Angela C. (Stephen) Williams (Dayton, Ohio), ten grandchildren , seven great grandchildren, brother Millard M. Dixon (Springfield, Ohio), sisters Francis M. Burton and Charlene Butler (Columbus, Ohio) and Patricia A. Redding (Springfield, Ohio), special cousin Lamar Rice (Springfield) and a host of other cousins, nieces and nephews.

Service for Lloyd Dixon will be held Wednesday April 8, 2015 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church 34 W. Pleasant St. Springfield, Ohio (Mulberry St. entrance). Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service, which will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Ernest C. Brown, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park, Springfield, Ohio. Arrangements are entrusted to Robert C. Henry Funeral Home.
