Obituary

On Monday, December 30 2024, our beloved Juria Musheerah Akram-Muhammad, 86, of Springfield, Ohio, transitioned from this life, taking her place in paradise. Juria was born in Sparta, Georgia, on August 6, 1938, as the second daughter of Robert and Mamie Williams. Her teenage years brought her and her family to Springfield, Ohio, where she met the love of her life, Lee Najee Akram-Muhammad. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising seven children and lovingly embracing three bonus children from previous relationships. In the late 1950s, Juria and Lee accepted the teachings of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad, setting off a chain of events that profoundly shaped their lives and community. These teachings emphasized black excellence, self-sufficiency, and community empowerment. Inspired by these principles, Juria and her husband founded several community businesses, including Original Foods and Your Market. A creative and talented individual, Juria was also a master seamstress and baker, celebrated for her world-class bean pies. Juria was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mamie Williams; her brother, Robert Jr.; her husband of 41 years, Lee Najee Akram-Muhammad; her step-son, Karim Akram and Travis Feaster; her step-daughter, Barbara Stewart. She leaves to cherish her memory three beloved sisters, LaDainty White, Emmie Vance, and Emma (Lawrence) Kidd; her sister-in-law, Virginia McCarty; her seven children, Sherida Akram-Rasul, Marsha (Robert) White, Darrell (Audrey) Akram, Stephan (Dawn) Akram, Stephanie (Vincent) Rowe, Elisha Akram, and Amin (Tasha) Akram; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her legacy also extends to the entire Springfield community and the membership of the Nation of Islam, all of whom were profoundly impacted by her life and work. Juria Musheerah Akram-Muhammad's life was a testament to faith, family, and service. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
