John H. "Herbie" Cole passed away December 6, 2022. He was born July 9, 1934 in Springfield, Ohio the son of John Herbert and Syble (Wheeler) Cole.  Mr. Cole retired from Navistar International after 35 years of service.  He served his country in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged.  He was a member of UAW Local 402 and K of P.  John was an avid fisherman and loved to bowl and was a member of the 700 club.

His memory will be cherished by his daughters, Opal Paris, Rita (Michael Bibb) Cole and Patricia Cole all of Springfield, Ohio; stepdaughters, Janet Thompson and Annette Beard both of Springfield, Ohio, 13 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren; special nephew, Dr. Steve Houpe of Kansas City, Missouri; special friend, Tosca Applin; sister-in-law, Viola Whatley of Montgomery, AL and a host of other relatives and friends.  John was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Pecola (Mays) Cole: sons, John "Jose" Cole and John Evans; grandson, Jeffrey Wellington and all of his siblings and significant other, Vernstein Thompson.

Visitation is Thursday, December 15, 2022 from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. in St. John Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at 11 a.m. in Dayton National Cemetery with military honors.
