Jesse Sawyer, 87, of Springfield, Ohio went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Springfield Regional Medical Center. Jesse was born in Williamson, West Virginia and lived there until he left to proudly serve his country in the United States Army. Jesse earned a bachelor's degree from Bluefield State College, Bluefield, West Virginia, and a master's degree from West Virginia University, Morgantown, West Virginia. He also attended Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana before moving to Europe, where he attended Heidelberg University Medical School in Heidelberg, Germany for three years. Jesse lived in Den Haag, Holland for over 40 years, but decided to relocate to Springfield to be closer to his sister. While in Holland, Jesse had a career in the Import-Export Business. Jesse was a faithful member of St. Raphael Catholic Church in Springfield, Ohio and a proud member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He loved to bowl and participate in family outings and dinners. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Lilly Sawyer, and his sister and brother-in-law, Bernice and Paul Gomer. He is survived by his daughter, Annika Sandberg (Stefan); two grandchildren, Ida Uhlin and Petter Uhlin, all of Motala, Sweden; sister, Alice Marshall of Springfield, Ohio; nephews, Reginald Marshall (Patricia), Michael Marshall (Melanie); niece, Paula Sharper (Ceasar); grand-nephews, Ryan Sharper, Kendall Marshall, and Kameron Marshall, and a host of beloved cousins. Jesse was blessed with special friends, Ed and Connie Kearns, and Dale Wheeler, as well as many others.
