Edward Lee Dorsey was born July 14, 1943 in Washington, Georgia to the late Henry Lee Dorsey and Margaret Tillman Dorsey. Edward passed away suddenly on May 17, 2016.
He attended Detroit Public Schools and Wayne State University.
During the Great Migration, the family moved to Michigan seeking economic opportunity and an escape from Jim Crow laws. Edward was a hard worker and from an early age began working to help support his family and create a better life.
Ed was employed in the retail and food services industry for over forty years. He was a key member of the management team of Great Scott and WalMart. Following retirement, his hobby was finding bargains. He scoured local stores for items to indulge his family and never passed up a good deal.
Ed's known for his entertaining stories, jokes, and friendly, fun-loving spirit. He was a gracious host who frequently welcomed family and guests to his home and to his table. His hospitality was first class and so was his cooking. Edward enjoyed the Motown music, Western movies, traveling, offering advice and discussing current events.
Mr. Dorsey was a frequent guest and regular volunteer at Perrin Woods Elementary School, where his wife, Nena, is the Principal. He enjoyed greeting families at school events. He was a strong supporter of education and donated thousands of dollars worth of school supplies, book bags, clothing, and countless treats and incentives.
Edward was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Dr. Nena Thames Dorsey, with whom he would have celebrated their 20th anniversary on August 31, 2016; ex-wife, Elinor Evans, the mother of his three children, Tracey Anora Henry, Candace Elizabeth Dorsey, Kevin Edward (LaKeta) Dorsey, four grandchildren Sydnie Dorsey, Kelli Dorsey, Kameron Dorsey, Karson Dorsey, siblings, Barbara (David) Hudson, Emma Jean (Walter) Heard, Carolyn Tilman, Constance Lynette Dorsey, Linda Gail Dorsey, Beverly Gray, Robert Hensley (Charlotte) Dorsey. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Joseph Clarence Williams, sister Frances Ann Degraffenreid and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends.
