Obituary

Darryl Walls, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 25, 1961, Darryl brought warmth and joy to all who knew him.

Darryl was the cherished son of Samuel F. Walls and Betty J. (Oliver) Walls. He shared a close bond with his siblings: Samuel L. (Cassandra) Walls of Columbus, Sharon Harris of Dayton, OH, James Walls of Springfield, Dianne (Jeffery) Dixon of Dayton, and Frank (Sandra) Wellington. The Walls family was a tight-knit and loving group, with music and faith playing central roles in their lives.

A dedicated member of Bethesda Apostolic Church in Urbana, Darryl was baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost during his time there, a transformative experience that deepened his faith and commitment to God. Later, he continued his spiritual journey as a member of Church of Jesus in Springfield, Darryl's faith was the cornerstone of his life. He learned to play guitar by plucking on a single string until he mastered the instrument, eventually playing for the Southern Ohio District Choir, the CJ's, the Church of Jesus Choirs, and even filling in for the Ohio Players. His talents extended beyond the guitar; he was also skilled at playing drums and served in various church roles, including Sunday School teacher, Choir President, Church Band member, Minister, Deacon, New Members Class teacher, and coordinator of Pastor's Anniversary celebrations.

Darryl's love for the Word of God was profound. Each day began with him sitting at his desk, immersing himself in scripture before starting his day. His faith and dedication to his church community were a testament to his character and love for others.

A graduate of Springfield North High School in 1980, Darryl excelled in track and field, becoming a state finalist, and was also a proud member of the basketball team. He went on to earn an Associate Degree in Computer Programming from Clark State Community College in 1982. His professional career spanned 30 years at Honda of America, where he was respected and admired by his colleagues.

In his retirement, Darryl embraced the role of a professional grandpa, a title he wore with immense pride. He was the devoted husband of Jackie Walls for 38 years, 11 months, and 29 days, and together they welcomed two children, Anthony and Maria. Darryl was not just a good husband and great dad but an exceptional "Poppi" to his grandchildren, Jayda, Tyrell, Tariq, Taemir, and Gabrielle. His post-retirement days were filled with joy as he babysat and picked up his beloved grandchildren, forming bonds that will last a lifetime.

Darryl's life was a testament to the power of faith, family, and love. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

He made the world a better place with his kindness, music, and unwavering faith.
