Obituary

Chilos "Kirkey" Norris Jr., 57, departed this life Saturday, August 20, 2016. He was born August 27, 1958 the son of Chilos Norris Sr. (biological mother, Martha E. Branham-Norris) and Luella Jean Norris. He was a graduate of South High School, played the drums in the band and was a baseball player on the teams his father coached and played one season of semi pro baseball in Columbus, Ohio. He joined the U.S. Marine Corp and was honorably discharged after four years. He worked for The Ohio State University Hospital, General Motors Truck and Bus Group, Moraine, Ohio, being pictured at the end of the documentary film on it's closing of "The Last Truck". When the GM plant closed, Kirkey chose to honor his father, Chuck Norris, by being his daily caregiver for three years, due to Alzheimer's, until a new job opportunity limited his ability to care for him. Kirkey left him in the capable hands of his wife, Andrea Norris and grandson, Alex Norris. He got the call to start supervisory work at the GM plant in Lordstown, Ohio where he stayed during the week commuting back to Springfield on most weekends and holidays for four years. Then he was hired at Navistar International bringing him back to Springfield to work. During KJ's high school and college, Kirkey was always there to support and encourage his son in his baseball pursuits whether the games were in town or out of state. Kirkey was an excellent gardener, learning from Papaw over the years. The produce he grew was bigger and better that what you could ever get at any grocery store. Kirkey was a powerful bowler with the Mix Masters league until he began to golf. Every chance he got to play golf he did. Taking special golfing trips to Myrtle Beach with his friends and playing golf golf with his son. He enjoyed taking photographs and printing off his own pictures, and he could make some good wine! Soft spoken most times, but Kirkey was a fighter! Having enduring hip replacement surgery and recovery twice on the same hip and a broken femur bone. He was a very devoted husband and father and always talked about KJ whenever he had an opportunity to do so. He was extremely proud of his son and his accomplishments. KJ was his pride and joy! He was everybody's favorite uncle and always generous to family and friends. His strong spirit, helping hand and positive attitude of life is what he would want all of us to remember. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 34 years, Andrea Norris of Springfield, Ohio; one & only beloved son, Chilos "KJ" (Latoya) Norris III of Fort Wayne, Indiana; siblings, Alma Brooks of Atlanta, Georgia, Warren "Doug" (Sylvia) Norris of Springfield, Ohio, Elaine (Cleveland) Kirkland of Buffalo, New York, Bruce Jones of Hanover, Maryland; uncle, Larry Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada; special cousins with whom he was raised, Martha "Punkin" Dixon, Pam Chilton and Sherry Elliott; special niece, Tunisia Glenn; best friends, Billy Caldwell, William "Deer" Gray and Randy Speaks and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents; sister, Teresa Norris-Hall; infant brother, Barry Norris; aunt, Mary Jackson and uncle, Grady Welch, who shared his birthday.
