Obituary

Bobbie Williamson, 96, of Springfield, Ohio, passed away at 12:09 AM on Friday, July 10, 2026, at Mercy Health Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born September 9, 1929, in Champaign, Illinois, to the late Raymond and Florence Goolsby Williamson.

Bobbie honored his country through his service in the U.S. Army. Later, he earned his bachelor’s degree and was employed with the Federal Government. He was a faithful member of New North Street A.M.E. Church, and served on many boards and committees in Champaign, Illinois, and in Springfield, Ohio.

Bobbie loved people and was a rich source of history, humor, and, above all, Godly wisdom. He enjoyed fishing, observing the beauty of God’s creation, and traveling. Bobbie loved family unconditionally and traveled to visit loved ones until his health no longer permitted long-distance driving. Since early 2022, his younger cousins from West Tennessee have come to see him at least three times each year. His youngest cousin, Jason, spearheaded each trip along with cousins Gale, Tina, and Micheal. The memories from each visit, the anticipation of their next visit, and the many phone calls between added immense joy to Bobbie’s life.

Bobbie was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife of 71 years, Barbara J. Williamson.

Bobbie leaves behind to cherish his memory devoted cousins, Martingale Carter, Ernestine Williamson, Michael Williamson, and Jason Carter, all of West Tennessee; cousins, Robbie Green Hillsman, Roy Green, and Melinda Carter Brooks, all of West Tennessee; cousin, Ronald Williamson of Virginia; cousin, Johnny Lawson of Springfield, Ohio; Lelan Frantz, sisters-in-law, Florence Powell and Judy Motley; a very faithful and attentive neighbor; Angela Moreland of North Carolina, Michael Moreland of Wisconsin, and a host of other relatives, church family, friends, and neighbors. Special thank-you to Monte and Jessica Brigham, Rev. Jacqueline Randolph, the Villa Springfield Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Mercy Health Springfield Regional Medical Center staff, Cherish Hospice, and the Robert C. Henry Funeral Home.

Visitation is Monday, July 13, 2026 from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. in New North Street A.M.E. Church. Burial will be Friday, July 17, 2026 in Ferncliff Cemetery at 12:15 p.m. with military honors.
