IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bernice (Walker)
Haynes
September 26, 1938 – June 19, 2025
Bernice Haynes, 86 of Springfield, OH, passed away on June 19, 2025, after a brief illness in Columbus, Ohio. Born on September 26, 1938, Bernice was known for her boundless generosity and loving nature. Affectionately called Grammy or Gram by her grandchildren, she quickly took on the role of Gram to all who knew her. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel at home, often giving away her own possessions to anyone who showed interest, from sunglasses to meals.
Bernice cherished her role as a matriarch, frequently opening her home to nieces, nephews, and traveling family members, and providing a nurturing environment for grand sleepovers and festive gatherings. She was the heart of many cherished family traditions, including big breakfasts and baking cookies during Christmas, creating memories that her family will hold dear. She was exceptionally proud of everything her kids, grands and great grands did – grateful to God beyond measure that such a smart and talented family came from her! And each one is just as proud to be hers – imitating many of her hilarious phrases and mannerisms to carry forward in the generations to come.
She is survived by her children, Keith (Alicia) Scott, Keith Edward (Kay-Kay) Haynes, Khristy Haynes and son-in law, Shawn Channels; grandchildren, Erin, Kandas (Marcus), Brandon (Tayler), Sidney (Gemayel), Brock, Kourtney, Tyler, Kent II(Jasmine), Briana, Kerrington (Katie), Kayley, David, and Andrew; great-grandchildren, Requan, Deja, Rashaad, JayLynn, Palmer, Prescott, Aiden, Sawyer, Liam, Kerrington Jr., and Kobe; sisters Maryann Patrick and Jean Walker, along with countless nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alonzo and Dorine Walker, son Kent, daughter Kathy, great-great grandson Kyrei, and twelve siblings.
Bernice attended Wilberforce University and retired from the manufacturing industry in the early 90s. She enjoyed various hobbies that enriched her life. She was an avid sports watcher, a voracious reader, and had a passion for baking cookies and making desserts. Her rose garden was a testament to her love for beauty and nature.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 28th at 2 pm at the Snyder Park Oval Shelter, where family, friends, and those whose lives were touched by Bernice can gather to celebrate her remarkable life.
