Annie Jewell Wingo, 92, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2015. She was born on August 10, 1923 in Atlanta, Ga. a daughter of Oscar and Cora (Gleeton) Smith. Mrs.Wingo was a devoted member of the St. John Baptist Church where she was active in several church organizations. She was an excellent cook and she enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She leaves to cherish her memory a loving daughter, Parniece Johnson of Galatin, TN; a devoted nephew, Wayne Doyle of Springfield; granddaughters, Nicole Pratt and Simone Slaughter, great grandchildren, Sierra, T'ana and Malik Slaughter; great great granddaughter, Serenity Slaughter; nieces Joyce Rodgers, Venice Caprice Doyle, Debra Doyle and Shelia Ballard; a nephew, Cecil Doyle; a brother-in-law, Clifford Wingo; a sister-in-law, Daisy Mae Wingo Woods, her St. John Church Family; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, S.Y. Wingo and several sisters and brothers. Visitation for Mrs. Wingo will be 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon Thursday in the Robert C. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon Thursday in the funeral home with Pastor Ernest C. Brown, officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Burial Park.
