James Haywood Williams Jr., "Jimmy", 66, passed away unexpectedly November 11, 2018. He was born on March 16, 1952 in New York City, New York to James Haywood Williams and Nellie (Bush) Williams. After graduating from Weequahic High School (Newark, New Jersey) in 1970, he attended Middlebury College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in American History in 1974.
Jimmy was proud of his 43 years of service as a college administrator, advocating for young people of color at elite colleges and universities. He served as an Admission Officer, Counselor, and Dean at Brown University (Rhode Island), Davidson College (North Carolina), Middlebury College (Vermont), Antioch College (Ohio), St. Lawrence University (New York), and The College of Wooster (Ohio), before retiring from Wittenberg University (Ohio) as the Senior Associate Dean of Admission on July 31, 2018.
Jimmy leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Jan (Beard) Williams; father, James Haywood Williams Sr.; three devoted daughters, Mica (Jeffery) Dean, Berea, Kentucky Rhonda (Jason) Newsome, Richmond, Indiana, Nya (Jason) Beckett, New Smyrna Beach, Florida and Brett (Marc) Axelberg, Middlebury, Vermont; three sisters, Deborah (Rosby) Lee, Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Kathryn (Michael) McCrory, Lee's Summit, Missouri, Rena Williams, Reynoldsburg, Ohio; one brother, Michael (Julie) Williams, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and a stepson, Earl Taylor III, Beavercreek, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Jeffery and Zen Dean, Alexis, Andrew, Aaliyah, Avril, and Alanna Newsome, and Averi James Beckett. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nellie Jane Williams in 2010.
