Barbara Colvin of Columbus, Ohio and formerly of Springfield, Ohio transitioned peacefully Monday, September 16, 2019 in Columbus, Ohio. She was born July 24, 1954 in Springfield, Ohio the daughter of the late Monroe and Loujessie (Avery) Colvin. Barbara was a faithful follower of Christ at an early and attended Phillip Temple AME Church. Barbara moved to Columbus, Ohio and joined St. Paul AME Church under the leadership of Pastor Michael Bean. Barbara felt a calling on her life to the ministry. She received her Bachelors Degree from Wilberforce University Climb Program and attended Columbus State Community College. She also became a Certified Drug Counselor and worked for Project Linden, Columbus, Ohio.
Barbara received a Certificate of Ordination on October 10, 2004 as Rev. Barbara Colvin for the work of Itinerant Elder. She started St. Paul Prison Ministry and traveled throughout Ohio. She became the Director of the AME Church Third Episcopal District and West Pennsylvania under the leadership of Bishop C. Garnett Henning Sr. The Third Episcopal District received a $25,000 award from the State of Ohio to use for the Prison Ministry.
Barbara created a documentary of her life; The Barbara Colvin Story, which was shown all over the Third Episcopal District and can be seen on YouTube.
Barbara's memory will be cherished by her three children, Michael, Michelle and Myron; sister, Chris (Jesse) Stafford; brother, Gary (Vickie) Colvin, 23 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 18 nieces and nephews and many relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Shirley Chatman; three brothers, Harold, Ronnie and Furqan.
Visitation is Saturday, September 21, 2019 from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m in Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1171 S. Yellow Springs Street Springfield, Ohio 45506
