Lela Hall Obituary

 Lela Mae (Lytle) Hall, Sunrise: August 12, 1925 - Sunset : April 11, 2024

Lela Mae Lytle Hall was born to Margaret Ann (Stripling) Lytle and Robert Braxton Lytle on August 12, 1925 in Springfield, Ohio. She was the oldest of twelve children blessed to that union. She is survived by her sibling, Ada Lee Barker of Toronto, Canada; by her children, two sons, Anthony V. Hall of Clearwater, Minnesota and Christopher L. (Gwendolyn) Hall of Springfield, Ohio and two daughters, Teresia Harper Simmons of St. Louis, Missouri and Karen Hall Hudson of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren, Neal Allen, Marcus (Sandra) Hall, Randall Harper, Rabiah Harper, Mandisa Hudson Vinson, Tavis Hudson, Demetrius Hall, Patricia George, Kanesha Hall Scott and Camille Hall; as well as, thirteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Braxton Lytle and Margaret (Stripling) Lytle; her husband of 64 years, Leonard Hall; her daughter, Gloria E. (Hall) Taylor; siblings, Leon Lytle, Harold Lytle, Robert (Annie Howell) Lytle Jr, James Lytle, Johnny Lytle, David Lytle, Larry Lytle, Elizabeth Lytle, Andrea Lytle, Vicki E. (Lytle) Langhorne; daughter-in-law, Deanna Mills and son-in-law, Joe C. Simmons.

Lela was educated at Springfield High School and graduated in 1945 with her high school diploma. She was an advocate in the field of medicine spending many years employed at Springfield City Hospitals as a nurse aide. She also earned her Licensed Practical Nursing Degree from the first Inaugural class of Clark State Technical College and she and classmate, Hazel Carter were the first Black graduates. She would go on for more training to become a licensed Midwife and Mental Health Therapist. During the illness of her husband, Lela served as his main caregiver and was there for many members of her community and family.

Lela was a member of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Springfield, Ohio for over sixty years where she served in many positions; such as, the Minister of Music, Choir Director, Vacation Bible School Director and she served on the Deaconess Board. Lela was a Christian who loved and served the Lord until her illness prevented otherwise. Countless individuals and families were gifted by her love and guidance.

She was an active bowler and loved bowling in leagues with her husband, friends and sisters-in-law, Barbara Lytle and Annie Lytle. Lela had a passion for travel and was able to travel all over the world visiting family and friends. Lela was also involved in the National Baptist Convention and traveled to many and was involved in training others. She was known nationally and in the tri-state area for her beautiful singing voice. Our family is a family of musicians of every genre, Lela was not different. She took lessons in piano and organ and you could find her singing and playing the organ most Sunday mornings. She was happiest singing, playing and directing the choir.

We shall miss the force that she was and we will always cherish her memory and the marks that she leaves permanently etched upon our hearts. She was and will always be loved.
